Upkot’s roots? A food truck at the Ghent Festivities, where lovebirds and students Koenraad & Nele sold their iconic ‘Keizer Karel’ sandwiches. With the profit (and a big loan), they launched their very first student house. They transformed an old manor into a cosy student home with six rooms.
Soon they realised: your student years are when you make connections for life.
Their mission? To make that time even more legendary as your landlord.

And that’s how Nele & Koenraad suddenly found themselves in the shared kitchen of their student home. Big pot of spaghetti on the stove, a beer in hand, surrounded by their students. And they felt it: it’s the vibe that matters.
Not just renting out rooms, but creating memories. Eating together, laughing, building connections. Right there, between the spaghetti and the students, the foundation of today’s Upkot was born.

After years of renovating, building, tweaking and rebuilding, the Upkot brand finally became a reality in 2012. Ter Plaeten Upkot was born, along with 101 brand-new Upkotters. Nele & Koenraad immediately knew: the bar was set. With chill common spaces, a green mission and a coach who completes the whole experience. They hadn’t found that anywhere else. And the price? Still the same.

Bye bye student life! But the Up-family? You don’t have to miss them yet. Enter Upliving: comfortable apartments in a matching community. Your post-exam parties turn into afterworks, but the vibe stays the same. A smooth shift from student life to the ‘adult world’. Whatever that may mean. 😉
