Why study in Ghent?
Why study in Ghent?
It's no coincidence that Ghent is the student city of Flanders. Student vibes are everywhere here: from early morning lectures to late nights at the Overpoort. Thanks to Ghent's compact size, everything's within cycling or walking distance, whether you've got class at the Blandijn, on the De Sterre campus, or near the UZ. At the same time, you get to enjoy a stunning historical backdrop as a student here: studying with a view of the Graslei, unwinding along the Coupure, or having a picnic in Citadelpark. That's what completes the picture.
Ghent combines the best of both worlds: a lively, young energy and a cosy, authentic atmosphere where you'll feel at home in no time.
The heart of Ghent's student life beats around Sint-Pietersplein, Overpoortstraat and Blandijnberg. By day, students hit the books together in libraries or coffee shops; by night, the area comes alive with cafés, student societies and all sorts of activities. Overpoortstraat is Ghent's go-to nightlife hub, packed with dozens of bars and clubs. And don't forget Oude Beestenmarkt and Korenmarkt either - the perfect spots to grab a drink on a terrace with friends.
Ghent is easy to reach via Gent-Sint-Pieters station, with direct train connections to Antwerp, Brussels and other major cities. From there, trams and buses will get you to the different campuses in no time. Once you're in the city, the bike is the way to get around as a student in Ghent - the city's compact, bike-friendly, and everything's just around the corner.
There's always something going on for students in Ghent. Soak up the historic setting around the Graslei, visit the Gravensteen, or meet up with friends at one of the many cafés. With iconic events like the Gentse Feesten and some downtime at the Blaarmeersen domain, the balance between studying and having fun is well and truly sorted in Ghent.
