Everyone links sustainability with footprints and solar panels. We see it a bit bigger. Think smartly built rooms, communities that share (slice of pizza, anyone?) and energy we generate ourselves in our own solar farms. Not because we have to, but because it feels right. So you can live your most sustainable kot life.

We design with brains and a green heart. From the first sketch to the finishing touches, our focus is on materials that are kind to the planet. That way, your room is ready for today and whatever comes next.
Going gas-free
A cosy room should stay warm in winter. And a cold shower? Hard pass. That’s why Upkot looks for energy solutions that keep you comfortable without letting the planet down. The short version? Gas out, green energy in. We’re not there in all rooms just yet, but we’re on it. Endgame: fully CO₂-neutral, futureproof and still hot.
Less CO₂ through timber building
More timber, less CO₂: that’s the goal. By 2035, we want to build completely emission-free, and we’re already taking the first steps today. How? By building with timber, and actually heading into the forest ourselves. Because if we build with wood, it should come from our own sustainably grown forests.
Green gardens
Who’s up for a picnic? A garden in the middle of the city is pure heaven, right? Plus, you get less heat, more biodiversity and a healthier climate. From day one, our architects work with one mission in mind: every Upkotter should have a view of green.

There's already enough stuff in the world, right?! We think so too. That’s why we have our own Upcycling Atelier. Three amazing women give old items a glow-up and turn them into eye-catchers that give our rooms the unique Upkot look. Why? Because new is overrated. And the coolest kind of sustainability... is creativity!
Social sustainability
Upkot coach
A coach, seriously?! Don’t worry, the Upkot coach isn’t an extra parent, but helps keep things running smoothly with events, clear rules and a listening ear. If you’ve got a technical problem, you can also turn to your coach, who’ll work with the Facilities coach to make sure you can get on with studying, chilling out and enjoying student life. Olé!
Upgrade solidarity
We care. That’s why we started Upgrade Solidarity in 2020: our foundation that supports Upkotters when things get tough. Mental support for anyone who needs someone to talk to. And financial help for those who suddenly can’t afford their room due to circumstances beyond their control.
